If you’ve been wondering how to convert your followers into sales, “calls to action” also known as CTA’s are your best shot. CTAs are often used in email marketing, social media posts, and online ads to help drive conversions and increase engagement.
What is a Call to Action
A call to action (CTA) is a statement or button that encourages a specific action from the reader or viewer. For example signing up for a newsletter, sharing a video you created, or visiting a website (be specific about what you want them to do once they get to the website). Any of these should result in a purchase at some point. Your CTA should always be clear, specific, and should be prominently placed so your audience can easily see it and act.
If you’re new to making content on social media, you’ll definitely want to start here.
Calls to action are important on social media for several reasons:
- Increased conversions
- Increased engagement: CTAs such as asking the viewer to comment or sharing your post helps increase the reach and visibility of this specific piece of content.
- Help build your brand by directing the viewer to your website or other online properties, where they can learn more about your brand and what you have to offer.
- Track the effectiveness of your social media efforts by monitoring the number of clicks.
- Provide context to your post, by giving more meaning and direction to your message. For example, you post a short reel on IG and you give an extended explanation in the caption. Your call to action on the reel would be “See caption” or “read caption for more”.
Here are some tips on how to use CTAs in your social media posts:
- Be clear and specific: Use action-oriented language that clearly communicates what you want your audience to do. For example, “Sign up now” or “Learn more by [insert action]”.
- Make it prominent: Position your CTA at the top or bottom, so that it’s easy to spot. Use contrasting colors or a larger font size to make it stand out.
- Use visuals: Incorporate visuals like buttons or arrows to draw attention to your CTA and make it more eye-catching.
- Test and optimize: Test different CTAs and formats to see which ones perform the best. Track the results and make adjustments as needed.
- Use Urgency: Use words that create a sense of urgency, like “limited time” or “exclusive offer” which will encourage people to act fast.
- Make it easy: Make sure the link or action you are encouraging them to take is easy to access and complete.
Examples of Calls to Action on (CTAs) that can be used on social media:
- “Sign up for our newsletter”
- “Download our app”
- “Book a consultation”
- “Shop now”
- “Watch the video”
- “Join our community”
- “Follow us on [platform]”
- “Like and tag a friend”
- “Swipe up to purchase”
If we’re being intentional, then every single post, should include some type of CTA. Remember, your CTA may not be directly related to a purchase, but it for sure contributes to the consistent “buy in” from your audience. We call this, customer/audience loyalty. By following these tips, you can make your CTAs more effective and increase conversions on your social media posts.
